Armando
is a Costa Rican with 21 years experience in international business
development. He is the founder and president of boutique advisory firm
INFINITUM, dedicated to helping companies and entities do more and better business
in other countries. His most recent projects have been in Madagascar, Uganda, Mali, Senegal, Dominican Republic, Antigua & Barbuda, Colombia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, the U.S. and Canada.
He
previously worked at CINDE (the Investment Board of Costa Rica) as Promotion
Director in the U.S. from 1995 to 1999, and later Worldwide Investment Director until April
2001. He had a key role in developing and executing the strategies, framework
and plans that resulted in sustained record levels of investment and the
creation of Costa Rica’s clusters in electronics, medical devices y
customer service centers during this period. As part of this, he participated
and/or led the teams that persuaded and helped establish more than 60 foreign
companies in Costa Rica to export worldwide, including “strategic anchor”
investments of Abbott, Western
Union, Procter &
Gamble and Intel, for which he is recognized. Also related to attracting FDI,
he led strategy design and execution of marketing & sales plans that
tripled income for the newest Free Zone industrial/business park in Costa Rica.
He
also worked for multinational companies, as well as for small and medium size
enterprises, developing their business in categories such as food and beverages,
personal care, household cleaning, high technology, software, retail, wholesale,
and business consulting in strategy, marketing and sales, and introducing
products and services in the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Costa Rica. He has recently led and/or executed research
programs for important companies looking to enter the U.S. and Canadian markets.
Armando is a Fulbright
scholar, obtained his MBA in International Business at U.C. Berkeley and his
Business & Finance BA at Universidad de Costa Rica. He was a member of the
Board of AMCHAM in Costa Rica for three consecutive years. He is fluent in
Spanish, English and French. His strengths are strategy/planning, analysis, implementation,
negotiation, languages and business presentations.
